Moving back.

With the upcoming school year looming in the near future, I can’t help but feel a weird mixture of excited and sad. This is my last year of undergrad. And I can’t tell you for sure what I’ll be doing next year. Not having a plan is a foreign concept to me… up to this point in my life- I’ve always known what was next. But at this point, I just can’t predict what’s going to happen. Of course, I’m applying to some grad schools- but the idea of taking a year off is becoming more and more tempting. Especially with this senioritis I’ve seem to have caught. But I decided for this post that I wanted to make a list (because I love lists) of the things I love about going back to school and things I’m sad about when going back to school (6 hours away).

The Loves:

1. Buying school supplies. I love. love. love. LOVE school supplies. I’m not kidding. A fresh spiral notebook can make my entire day. Not to mention- organizing everything. I live for organizing.

2. Taking naps, and having free time. When I’m at school, I don’t have a job (although I probably should) so this leaves a lot of free time for “activities”, such as needed sleep, and homework time.

3. Friends! Majority of my friends are from WSU, which makes sense, since that’s where I spend 9 months out of the year. But since they go to WSU- most of them do not live near me when I’m home in the summer. So it’s always nice to go back and see everyone, and definitely catch up.

4. Going to class. Believe it or not- I actually enjoy attending class. I love my major, I love my professors, I love the people in my major, it’s like a little speech and hearing sciences family.

Things I’m not too fond of while being at school:

1. Being away from my family (mom, dad, sister/b-i-l, nephew, boyfriend, etc.)

2. Stress. I tend to over stress over the small things (and major things). And my blood pressure and likelihood of getting an ulcer are much higher while attending school.

3. The weather. Pullman’s weather is a freak show. I’ve literally experienced all four seasons in the span of 1 day and 6 miles. Plus, trekking to school in snow up to your knees isn’t exactly a cake walk.

4. Exams. I hate exams. But do you know what I hate more? Essays. Bleh.

So now my question to you is, what do you hate and love about school?

I also really love organizing things. Just being able to put everything in a neat little compartment of a backpack, have a binder with dividers, and two pens and two pencils with me at school at all times makes me feel so freaking ready to be productive.
More than that though, I love having something to do. More often than not, I find myself sitting around at home trying to make projects for myself. When I’m at school, I not only seem to have homework to do all the time or class to attend, but I find MORE productive activities to do so I can put off doing all that school work. I wish all those projects were more clear to me during summer though… I sure could use them now. :/

I totally know what you mean… I’m kind of dreading going back to school too because I know I will have a lot of free time. I get SO bored with a lot of free time… and a little depressed honestly. Of course I could use that free time to start studying the GRE, but do you think I will? Of course not.

You actually just made me miss school for the FIRST time since I’ve graduated.

I miss miss miss misssss back to school shopping – probably my favourite thing about school! I can never pass up a good package of pens.

I also miss all the free time, and sleeping. Don’t get a job – one day you’ll be working 9-5 and be like why didn’t I enjoy school more?

And don’t worry about what you’ll do next, everything will fall into place.
I don’t recommend taking a year off if you want to go to Grad School. I was going to take a year off, but now I’m more on the indefinitely done school side. Just stay within the groove of school while you can!

    Hope that helps!

Aww, thanks for the feedback. And I’m glad I could make you re-think your experiences. 🙂

Yeah… I’m still mulling over what I want to do exactly… but I do know if I took a year off- I would go back. Mainly because I can’t do ANYTHING with my degree without my masters… so it’s inevitable I will go. 🙂

I MISSSSSSS school so much! If I had a genie lamp, I would go back and do it all over again…and again….and again! My favorite part of back to school were the parties the first Monday of classes- those were the legendary ones! I also miss that first trip to Target to buy the decor for your room. And I love just walking EVERYWHERE! Especially when the leaves are changing and it is just sweater and jeans weather- no jackets required yet! AH- I want to go back! Hmphh…

I’m also obsessed with school supplies! I have a bad habit of buying more folders and binders and post-its than any one human being realistically needs.
